The Notre Dame Fighting Irish won their season opener against Temple on Saturday. They also announced the extension of head coach Brian Kelly who won is 200th career game.

After months of speculation the Fighting Irish have given Kelly a five-year extension.

Kelly flirted with the Philadelphia Eagles shortly after Notre Dame’s loss in the National Championship game to Alabama. After he returned to Notre Dame the school announced that they were working on an extension.

“I think getting to where we are today, especially with last year, reflected a lot of that,” Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick said of re-signing Kelly.  “This was more sort of long term — what we see the program like in three, four, five, six years.”
