It’s time for Ranger fans to say goodbye, as veteran infielder Michael Young waived his no trade clause today, reports Bob Nightengale on Twitter – a move that would send the 3B to the Philadelphia Phillies next season.
Young spent all thirteen of his major league seasons on the Texas Rangers. He started as the teams second baseman in 2000, throughout his career he would see time at short stop, third base, first base and designated hitter. He is a seven time all star and won a gold glove at shortstop in 2008.
Young moves to be the Phillies starting third basemen in 2013, the Rangers received reliever Josh Lindblom and prospect right-hander Lisalverto Bonilla.
It is said that the Phillies offered Young 1.2 million in benefits because of the state tax difference.
The Phillies will take on 6 million of the 16 million Young is owed next season by the Rangers.
Young was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 1997. He was later traded from Toronto to Texas in 2000.
Young hit .301/.347/.444 in his thirteen seasons with Texas.
