Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood was out paddle boarding when he found a dead body Tuesday morning.

Wood, 36, found a dead man floating in the water of the Chicago harbor and notified authorities.

“Mr. Wood immediately notified 911 of this discovery,” according to a police report, per the Chicago Tribune.

Once police arrived they were able to identify the man from a tag on his left wrist. The man had been reported missing nearly a week ago after he was released from a hospital on June 19.

Wood retired from baseball in 2012 and currently works as a spring training instructor with the Cubs. He was a two-time All Star and the 1998 NL Rookie of the Year. Wood is best known for a 20 strike out game against Houston in his rookie season.
