The Diamondbacks bolstered their bullpen on Wednesday adding veteran relief pitcher Hector Rondon.
Rondon’s deal with the Diamondbacks is worth $3 million for the 2020 season and carries a club option for 2021. The deal is pending a physical exam.
According to Jon Heyman, the option year in Rondon’s deal is worth $4 million and can rise to $5 million based on the number of games Rondon finishes in 2020. In 421 career games Rondon has 92 saves with most of them coming from 2014-2016 while with the Cubs as their closer. He was later moved out of that role for 2017 but upon landing with the Astros in 2018 picked up 15 saves.

Last season Rondon pitched for the Astros posting a 3.71 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and a 48/20 K/BB ratio.
The Diamondbacks figure to use Rondon in front of closer Archie Bradley.
