Former Cardinals World Series hero Anthony Reyes fighting California wildfire

Former Cardinals pitcher Anthony Reyes is reportedly on the front lines fighting the Thomas wildfire in California.

Reyes, 36, spent three and a half seasons with the Cardinals (2005-2008) before being traded to the Indians midway though the 2008 season. He would spend the 2009 season with the Indians at the big league level before spending time in the minors. Reyes later signed a minor league deal with the Padres but was out of baseball by the end of the 2012 season.

After leaving the field he opted to follow in the footsteps of his father and become a firefighter.

Reyes was 13-26 with a 5.12 ERA during his big league career. He never really seemed to live up to the expectations of fans with the exception of Game 1 of the 2006 World Series where he out-dueled Justin Verlander for a win.
