The Giants have reached a deal with the Marlins to acquire 2017 NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton according to John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle. Shea’s report comes following conversations with general manager Bobby Evans.

While the two sides have reached agreement, the trade still requires the outfielder to waive his no-trade clause. Stanton is believed to prefer a trade to the Dodgers where he would be closer to home.

Owed $295 million over the next 10 years trading Stanton is one of the offseason goals for the Marlins new ownership group.

The Giants remain in the hunt for Shohei Ohtani though since a contract for the Japanese star will only be the league minimum it is possible they could acquire both players.
