A down season led to Doug Fister finding a tough market. That has allowed the Astros to sign the 31-year-old to a one-year deal worth $7 million guaranteed.
Fister can earn another $5 million via incentives. He is believed to have been seeking a two-year deal north of $20 million but such a deal never came.
By taking the one-year deal Fister can rebuild his stock in 2016 and try to cash in next year.
With the addition of Fister the Astros rotation looks as good as anyone’s as it also features Dallas Keuchel, Collin McHugh, Lance McCullers and Scott Feldman.
