Pitcher Kris Medlen will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Friday with the Double-A Northwest Arkansas Travelers.
Medlen is attempting to return to the majors after undergoing a second Tommy John surgery. As Medlen has started and operated out of the bullpen during his major league career it is unclear where his future is with the Royals.
This past winter Medlen signed a two-year, $8.5 million contract with a $10 million mutual option for 2017.
