Royals re-sign Mitch Maier on minor league deal

The Royals have re-signed outfielder Mitch Maier on a minor league contract.

Maier, 32, appeared in 25 games for the team at the Double-A level hitting .233/.303/.389. A former first round pick, Maier has had little success at the big league level. He last played in the majors during the 2012 season and owns a career .248/.327/.344 line.

The deal to re-sign Maier is merely out of depth concerns. He has little chance of cracking the team’s Opening Day roster and would need an injury or two to see any chance at playing at the big league level this season.
