After it is all said and done could free agent pitcher Max Scherzer return to the Tigers?

The Tigers have denied having any talks with Scherzer yet reports of a return have not gone away. In the way of a reunion is the amount of money the Tigers have spent on other prized pieces of their roster in recent years.

In a story that will not go away MLB’s Jason Beck reports that sources indicate that the Tigers will be given a chance to match any deal for Scherzer, after all owner Mike Ilitch tends to reward players who produce wins for the team.

Over 33 starts last season Scherzer finished 18-5 with a 3.15 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP.

Teams believed to be in the bidding for Scherzer include the Yankees, Red Sox, Giants, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Cubs, Cardinals, and Angels. He is expected to command a contract over $200 million which could be why there have been no reports of hot and heavy talks for weeks.

As this one drags on you have to wonder if the Tigers could wait this one out and retain Scherzer.
