Showalter will meet the 29-year-old Rasmus in Alabama in hopes of convincing him to accept a one-year offer from the club.
Throughout his career Rasmus has shown flashes of production but has struggled to be consistent. His best season came in 2013 with the Blue Jays where he posted a .276/.338/.501 line with 22 home runs.
The Orioles are looking for inexpensive players with upside who could take the roster spots of free agent departures Nelson Cruz and Nick Markakis.
Thus far there have been no reports of any other teams showing interest in Rasmus. According to Eddie Encia of the Baltimore Sun the Orioles only have concerns on whether or not Rasumus will fit into the clubhouse. Much like Cruz from a year ago, Rasmus enters this offseason looking to rebuild his value and cash in next season.
