The Reds are looking to trim their payroll and while many have assumed that the team would trade away one of their starting pitchers another option to be moved is Jay Bruce.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Reds have had offers for Bruce but cautions that the team simply is listening to offers rather than soliciting them.

The Reds had a payroll of $114 million last year and already have $75.5 million committed towards players with nine more arbitration eligible.

Rosenthal notes that the Padres are among the teams interested in acquiring Bruce, and why wouldn’t they be. If the Reds traded away Bruce now they would be doing so with his value at a career low after coming back from a knee injury.

Bruce hit .217/.281/.373 last year with 18 home runs and 66 RBI in 137 games.
