Blue Jays claim Justin Smoak off waviers

The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed first baseman Justin Smoak off waivers from the Seattle Mariners.

Smoke, 27, is coming off a season in which he hit just .202/.275/.339 in 80 games. Long on potential and short on results, the Blue Jays will hope yet another change of scenery gets things going for Smoak.

The acquisition of Smoak who has a $3.65 million option for the 2015 season increases the likelihood that the Blue Jays move on from Adam Lind and decline his option.
