The Texas Rangers have released first baseman Carlos Pena.
About a month ago the Rangers sent a struggling Pena to Triple-A Round Rock after he produced just eight hits in 59 at-bats in 18 games. He had one home run and two RBI during his stay with the Rangers following injuries to Prince Fielder and Mitch Moreland.
Once in Round Rock, Pena hit .297/.350/.500 with four home runs and eight RBI in 20 games against Pacific Coast League competition.
Someone may take a chance on Pena and ticket him for a September gig but the former All-Star is clearly winding down his career.
