New York Mets pitcher Bartolo Colon has been scratched from his scheduled start against the Chicago Cubs on Monday afternooon.

Colon’s mother is ill leaving Carlos Torres to start in his place.

The Mets will shift Colon to the bereavement list and then call up an additional pitcher for the time being. The 41-year-old Colon has made 24 starts this season going 11-10 with a 3.85 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.

Of course the Mets will have David Wright in the lineup.

Wright missed Sunday’s game after leaving Saturday’s game with soreness in his right shoulder. The Mets third baseman has been bothered by his shoulder for much of the season. He boasts a .273/.331/.380 line with eight home runs and 56 RBI on the season.
