On Wednesday the Baltimore Orioles placed third baseman Manny Machado on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee ligament sprain.

Machado went down in Monday’s game against the New York Yankees when his knee buckled on a swing. He had to be helped off the field and was later seen using crutches in the dugout. An MRI on Tuesday revealed no structural damage in Machado’s knee.

This marks Machado’s second stint on the DL after he started the year there while recovering from surgery on his left knee.

With Machado headed on the DL, the Orioles recalled infielder Cord Phelps from Triple-A Norfolk. Matt Wieters was transfered to the 60-day DL in order to make room on the 40-man roster for Phelps.

Machado has a .278 batting average with 12 home runs and 32 RBIs in 82 games this season.

The Orioles have Chris Davis playing third base on Wednesday. As for Phelps he was hitting .258 with 49 RBI at Norfolk.
