On Friday the Chicago Cubs acquired starting pitcher Jacob Turner from the Miami Marlins for pitchers Tyler Bremer and Jose Arias.
Turner, 23, was designated for assignment by the Marlins this week after a disastrous second year in the majors. In 20 games – including 12 starts – Turner had a 5.97 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP.
It is a concern that the Marlins gave up on the former top prospect who was a key part of the Anibal Sanchez trade with Detroit but this is a worthwhile gamble for the Cubs.
Bremer and Arias had both been playing with Class A Kane County.
The Cubs were also revealed to be the team who was had claimed Cole Hamels off revocable waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies. While the two teams had discussions about a trade nothing happened and Hamels will remain with the Phillies at-least until this winter.
