After a nice start to the season, outfielder Bobby Abreu has run into a slump. On Monday the New York Mets designated the 40-year-old for assignment.

Given Abreu’s age and recent struggles it is possible that his career could be coming to an end.

Abreu sat out the entire 2013 season after failing to land a contract. He was hitting .238/.331/.336 with a home run and 14 RBI in 66 games for the Mets.
