Jim Johnson throws side session for Orioles

Free agent relief Jim Johnson threw a 10-minute side session on Monday at the spring training complex of the Baltimore Orioles.

Johnson saved 51 and 50 games for the Orioles in 2011 and 2012 before the team traded him to Oakland over the winter in a move to avoid paying his arbitration salary.

The Athletics soured on Johnson quickly and released him on August 1 after he posted a 6.92 ERA in 40 1/3 innings of work.

With the workout and his previous history with the Orioles it would be safe to assume that they are the front runners to sign him to a minor league deal.

According to Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun the side session which was thrown in front of Scott McGregor went well.
