With the MLB trade deadline approaching one player who has been in the headlines recently is San Diego Padres pitcher Ian Kennedy.
Kennedy is not a certainty to be moved at the deadline but FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports that the Kansas City Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins have all expressed interest in the 29-year-old right hander.
The Padres reason for keeping Kennedy is because he has a year of arbitration left. However given Kennedy’s success this season they want to strike while the iron is hot.
In 22 starts this season Kennedy is jsut 8-9 but boasts a 3.66 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. He has a 143/42 K/BB ratio on the season.
The Padres are also considering trades for reliever Joaquin Benoit with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians being two potential landing places.
