Jon Lester tabled contract talks with the Boston Red Sox so that they would not be a distraction for him during the season.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, Lester was surprised when the Red Sox attempted to rekindle contract talks in seaosn.

This winter Lester rejected a four-year deal worth approximately $70 million. The pitcher is expected to be seeking at-least $100 million in a new deal, a number the Red Sox apparently are willing to meet according to team sources.

“When the time is right, we can talk about it,” Lester told CBSSports.com Monday night.

Lester has only increased his value this season posting 2.65 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP though his first 19 starts this season while earning his third All-Star appearance.
