The Oakland Athletics acquired two starting pitchers from the Chicago Cubs late Friday night.
Both Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel have been traded from the Cubs to the Athletics. It’s surprising that the Cubs traded both pitchers at the same time.

In exchange for the pitchers, the Cubs have acquired short stop Addison Russell, starter Dan Straily and prospect outfielder Billy McKinney.
The Athletics are clearing going for broke this season while the Cubs continue their rebuilding process.
