Hunter Pence is moving to the leadoff spot for the San Francisco Giants.
With Gregor Blanco in a slump, manager Bruce Bochy is trying different things with his lineup. One of the changes will be to move Pence up from the No. 2 spot to leadoff.
“We need some help there,” Bochy said following Wednesday’s loss to St. Louis. “Gregor has gotten a little passive. He’s taken some good pitches. We may back him off a little to see if we can get something going early.”
Such a move figures to lower the number of RBI chances that Pence will have but could increase the number of runs scored. Ultimately it is about scoring runs for the Giants and Pence’s .295/.355/.467 line should be able to stabilize things at the top for the Giants.
