The Atlanta Braves have placed right handed relief pitcher David Carpenter on the 15-day disabled list.
Carpenter, 28, has a strained right biceps and while the Braves had listed him as day-to-day they simply could not afford to go with a short bullpen following Monday’s 13-inning game against Philadelphia.
In 34 games this season Carpenter owns a 4.23 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP.
With Carpenter going to the DL, it is Pedro Beato getting the call up from Triple-A Gwinnett.
The 27-year-old Beato has appeared in one big league game this season. In 28 1/3 innings of work at Gwinnett he has a 3.49 ERA and a 22/14 K/BB ratio.
