The Baltimore Orioles were bracing for bad news in regards to the elbow of catcher Matt Wieters, they got that bad news on Monday.
Via twitter the Orioles announced that Wieters will undergo Tommy John surgery on Tuesday and is expected to need nine months in order to recover.
CA Matt Wieters is scheduled to have right UCL reconstruction tomorrow afternoon. Recovery time expected to be 9 months.

Both Wieters and the Orioles had hoped to avoid this situation but the discomfort in his right elbow has continued to linger. The good news is that Wieters should be close to 100 percent by the start of spring training.
Nick Hundley will continue to see the bulk of playing time behind home plate for the Orioles this season.
In 26 games this season Wieters was hiting .308/.339/.500 with five home runs and 18 RBI.
