Chris Davis leaves with strained oblique, Joe Smith takes over as Angels closer

Chris David left Friday’s game against Kansas City in the fifth inning after suffering a strained left oblique.

While there is little news about the status of Davis it is almost a given that he lands on the disabled list. Davis is hitting .250 on the season with two home runs and 13 RBI in 22 games thus far.

Joe Smith will take over the ninth inning duties for the Los Angels Angels. On Friday Angels manager Mike Scioscia confirmed that he was placing Smith in the closers role which had previously been occupied Ernesto Frieri who had a 9.35 ERA in ten games this season.

Smith is not as electric as Frieri can be but he does offer the Angels better stability at this time. Smith owns a 3.24 ERA with 11 strikeouts in his first 10 innings this season.
