Los Angeles Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis underwent arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday to clean up the medial meniscus of his left knee.

Ellis suffered the injury while running the bases on Saturday. He is expected to miss 4-6 weeks and the Dodgers have already placed him on the 15-day disabled list.

Drew Butera was his backup, but the Dodgers have already recalled Tim Federowicz to help for the time being.

Last season Ellis appeared in 115 games hitting .238 with 10 home runs.
