The Atlanta Braves will have pitcher Ervin Santana make his season debut on Wedensday.
This had been the plan all along after the Braves signed Santana in mid-March. The right hander will be facing off against the New York Mets at Turner Field.
In his lone minor league outing Santana pitched poorly allowing six runs (five earned) over 5 1/3 innings with Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday. The Braves are not concerned with the outing and were using it as a chance to extend him prior to his season debut.
With Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy done for the season the Braves need Santana to pitch like he did while with the Kansas City Royals last season.
Last year Santana made 32 starts posting a 3.24 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP across 211 innings.
