The Boston Red Sox have placed third baseman Will Middlebrooks on the 15-day disabled list.
Middlebrooks will be sidelined with a Grade 1 right calf strain. While a Grade 1 strain means the severity is low, the Red Sox are not about to take a chance on the health of Middlebrooks this early in the season.
Brock Holt replaces Will Middlebrooks who goes on DL with calf strain. John Farrell said team felt Garin Cecchini still developing.

If all goes well the Red Sox will be able to activate Middlebrooks once the 15 days are up. Jonathan Herrera took his spot in the lineup on Saturday and he will be joined by Brock Holt in seeing time at third base.
In four games this season Middlebrooks was 3-for-13 with a home run.
