The Royals are hoping that Hochevar will avoid Tommy John surgery and return by the end of May.
Hochevar had a chance to crack the Royals rotation this spring but now that spot will go elsewhere.
Luke Hochevar has a sprained UCL. He'll be shut down for at least two weeks. The team hopes he returns by the end of May.

Last season Hochevar pitched solely out of the bullpen. In 58 games for the Royals he had two saves, nine holds, a 1.92 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP. The Royals have solid depth in their bullpen which is why they were giving him a chance to compete for a rotation spot.
