Carl Crawford called his stolen base total from a year ago “frustrating” on Saturday and after an offseason of strengthening his core is ready to improve on those numbers

“I went head-first all the time when I was younger,” Crawford said, via MLB.com. “Generally, that’s not the safest way. But either I do that or I stand still at first base all year. I’ll try something different and get that doubt out of my head.”

As for his 15 stolen bases on 19 attempts?

“That’s what’s frustrating,” Crawford said. “I got my triples, went from first to third, why am I not stealing more? It’s all mental and I just have to get over the hump.”

Crawford stole 46 or more bases in seven of eight seasons from 2003-2010 while with the Tampa Bay Rays.
