Four or five teams could end up signing outfielder Nelson Cruz to a multi-year contract according to one major league source.
The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo said that “momentum is starting to build in Cruz’s favor.”
Cruz has remained on the market in part because of his 50 game suspension for the use of performance enhancing drugs.
The Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles have been the two teams most hotly linked to Cruz this winter. Cruz’s former team, the Texas Rangers, have said they were doubtful to bring him back and later gave his number to Shin-Soo Choo.
Cruz, 33, hit .266/.327/.506 in 2013 with 27 home runs and 76 RBI in 109 games.
