The Chicago Cubs have signed relief pitcher Jose Veras to a one-year deal.
Veras, 33, split the 2013 season between the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers.
The deal between the right handed Veras and the Cubs calls for him to earn $4 million in 2014 with an option for 2015 worth $5.5 million.

Currently Veras could be considered the favorite for saves in the Cubs bullpen. He notched 21 saves last season while posting a 302 RA and a 1.07 WHIP. He struck out nearly a batter per inning.
