The San Francisco Giants do not plan to move Buster Posey to first base full-time.
Posey has previously spent some time at first base and with the Minnesota Twins announcing that Joey Mauer would move to the position full-time next season the question has come up.
“When we signed him to an extension, we considered him as a catcher, and those numbers he was able to get in the extension were based on him being a catcher,” said Sabean, via MLB.com. Sabean went on to talk about how catching “is his passion, and that’s where we need him to be at long term.”
For now there appears to be no reason to believe that Posey will play the majority of the 2014 season anywhere other than at catcher.
