Lance Berkman has not played for the Texas Rangers since June 6 and there is no indication he is anywhere close to returning following multiple setbacks.
Berkman, 37, is considering retirement and forfeiting roughly $4.4 million reports Ken Rosenthal.
On Wednesday Berkman and the Rangers will meet to discuss his injured need and plan a course of action. A decision is expected to be made then and announced shortly after.
Berkman retiring could give the Rangers added payroll flexibility ahead of today’s MLB trade deadline.
Prior to this season beginning Berkman considered retirement before signing with Texas. He has a .254/.355/.377 line in 68 games with six home runs and 34 RBI this season.
