Phillies working on contract extension with Chase Utley

The Philadelphia Phillies will not be trading Chase Utley, but instead are working on a contract extension with the 34-year old.

Utley as been termed as the the teams, “franchise player.”

CBSSports Jon Heyman reported that the Phillies and Utley are working on an extension that would cover three years or two years with a vesting option for a third, saying that the deal would pay him around $13 million per season.

The deal would be a raise for Utley as he is finishing up an $85-million, seven-year deal.

Utley is hitting .277 with 13 home runs and 36 RBI this season.
