Pittsburgh Pirates closer Jason Grilli will not be returning to the mound anytime soon.
Grilli was placed on the 15-day DL on July 23 after he was forced to exit the game the night before after suffering an apparent arm injury.
Grilli has been diagnosed with a strained right flexor tendon and will be out 4-8 weeks.
The diagnosis came from Dr. James Andrews. Grilli does not need surgery at this time, but he will be re-evaluated in 10-14 days.
It’s obviously a big blow for the Pirates, who have the second-best winning percentage in baseball behind the Cardinals.
Mark Melancon will continue to close while Grilli is out.
