George Sherrill has been trying to work his way back to the major leagues after undergoing Tommy John surgery. His return will not happen with the Kansas City Royals
The Royals released the left handed Sherrill on Friday after the 36-year-old struggled through 21 appearances with Triple-A Omaha.
Sherrill will seek another opportunity after compiling a 6.23 ERA in 21 2/3 innings for Omaha. While he did record 30 strike outs there is plenty of work to be done before Sherrill returns to the major league level.
Over parts of nine seasons Sherrill holds a 19-17 record with 56 saves, a 3.77 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP over 442 appearances.
