San Francisco Giants RHP Ryan Vogelsong fractured his right hand on Monday. Vogelsong tossed five scoreless innings against the Washington Nationals before he was hit in the hand with a pitch while swinging a bat.

Nicole, his wife posted on Twitter that Vogelsong “has a dislocated joint in the pinky finger of his throwing hand and it’s broken above and below his finger.”

Vogelsong will have surgery on Tuesday and is expected to miss the next six weeks.

Vogelsong, this season is 2-4 with a 7.19 ERA, so maybe the time off will be helpful to the 35 year old starting pitcher. Last season Vogelsong was 14-9 with a 3.37 ERA.

Chad Gaudin is the likely replacement in the starting rotation.
