New York Mets starting pitcher Jon Niese has been diagnosed with a lower right leg contusion. While x-rays on Niese’s leg came back negative it is questionable whether the 26-year-old will make his next start.
Niese was hit in the right leg with a comebacker off the bat of Mark Ellis of the Dodgers.
The Mets are aleady without Johan Santana for the year after it was deamed that he needed shoulder surgery. Shaun Marcum is dealing with a neck issue while Aaron Laffery was claimed off of waivers by the Blue Jays earlier in the day.
Niese, who was 2-1 with a 3.80 in his first four starts, was charged with one run on three hits and three walks in 2 1/3 innings.
