The Los Angeles Angels will be without ace starting pitcher Jered Weaver until mid-May. Ken Rosenthal reported that the right hander will miss 4-6 weeks with a fracture in his left elbow.

Weaver suffered the injury Sunday against the Rangers, jamming his non-throwing arm while dodging a line drive off the bat of Mitch Moreland in the sixth inning.

“Pretty painful. It feels a little swollen in there,” Weaver said after Sunday’s game. “I can’t move it around too good right now. It’s strange. Kind of like jamming your thumb.”

Last year Weaver won 20 games and had a 2.81 ERA in 30 starts for the Angels.

Either Garrett Richards or Jerome Williams will take Weaver’s spot in the rotation.
