Collins wants Bobby Parnell to be Mets closer

With Frank Fransisco dealing with elbow inflammation, Mets manager Terry Collins would like to see Bobby Parnell assume the role of closer. Collins told WFAN on Tuesday that he plans to give Parnell a shot at being the teams closer.

Parnell has notched 13 saves over the last two seasons but has done better as a setup man.

Last season Parnell finished with a 2.49 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP over 68 2/3 innings of work. Parnell struck out three times as many batters as he walked last season.

It is likely that Fransisco would have been on a short leash a the Mets closer even before the elbow inflammation occurred. The Mets recently added Brandon Lyon to their bullpen.
