The Cleveland Indians have signed outfielder Michael Bourn to a four-year deal. Bourn’s deal also calls for a vesting option for 2017 if he reaches 550 plate appearances in 2016.
Cleveland added Nick Swisher, Trevor Bauer, Drew Stubbs, Jason Giambi, Mark Reynolds, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Matt Albers and Bryan Shaw to their team this off season.
Bourn would seem certain to start in center and claim the lead-off role after he hit .274/.348/.391 last season and stole 42 bases for the Braves.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets had offered Bourn a four-year contract worth $48 million as well but did not have a vesting option.
