The Tennessee Lady Vols entered the opening game of the WCWS as underdogs. Leading up to the game the teams coaches played up the underdog status compelling the team to do what it takes to pull off an upset of the top ranked Oklahoma Sooners.

After one hit though ten innings of play the Vols responded with four in the top of the 11th to take a 3-0 lead.

Of course Oklahoma had worked hard all season to earn the number one seed in this tournament and were not about to go quietly on Monday night.

Ellen Renfroe was on the mound to start for the Vols and she was left with the task of shutting down the Sooners in the bottom of the inning. Renfroe was unable to stop the Sooners as Oklahoma rallied to tie the game and force a 12th inning.

In the bottom of the 12th Lauren Chamberlain was pitched to with first base open. It was a mistake and she belted a shot over the left field wall to give Oklahoma a thrilling 5-3 win. They are one game away from winning the WCWS.

Keilani Ricketts pitched the complete game for the Sooners.
