Kyle Busch apologizes for radio comments directed at TRD

A day after Toyota let it be known that they were unhappy with the radio communications of Kyle Busch following the Sprint Cup race at Dover the driver has released an apology. Busch was upset at the end of last weekends race after he needed to make one more pit stop then race winner Brad Keselowski. Busch led the most laps in the race but finished seventh.

When Busch finished the race he let loose with a flurry of unkind words directed at Toyota Racing Development.

“Thank you, TRD,” he said sarcastically. “[expletive] us out of another one. Piece of [expletive], mother [expletive].”

TRD president Lee White was not pleased with Busch’s comments Sunday.

“We’re extremely disappointed in his negative comments and the tone of the comments after the event. It is under discussion as we move forward. We certainly are very disappointed, having said that, Kyle is an amazing talent in a race car and he takes it very personally when something goes wrong and he loses a race he thinks he should have won.” Lee told Jim Utter of the Charlotte Observer Wednesday.

On Thursday Busch released the following statement.

“I made some remarks out of frustration on my radio at the end of last weekend’s race in Dover that were very misguided,” Busch said. ”I owe my friends at Toyota and TRD an apology. We have a great partnership with TRD and they built me a motor that helped me lead over 300 laps and nearly lap the field.

”It’s just frustrating that the caution fell where it did and suddenly it became a fuel mileage race and we were set up for maximum horsepower. Obviously, that worked well for most of the day and you can’t control when the cautions will fall.”

The 2012 season has been a disappointing year for Busch. He missed the Sprint Cup Chase for the second time in three years and has suffered multiple engine failures.

Team owner Joe Gibbs said in Thursday’s statement that Joe Gibbs Racing appreciates its relationship with Toyota, and that Busch shouldn’t have cursed at the manufacturer.

”Kyle recognizes that his comments and the tone of his comments were misguided. We’ve been able to work through this issue and I think everyone is ready to get back to the focus being on racing and Talladega,” Gibbs said.

  1. Sure he’s sorry now, why would a sponsor of such stature put up up his bullying of the owner and crew. Spoiled child, please grow up and see how good you really have it. Look at the empty stands and tv ratings the drivers have contributed to NASCAR’S DECLINE.

  2. .Kyle is my driver and has been for the last 5yrs. Having said that i will be the first to get on his case when he makes comments like this. He’s a great driver/wheel man and some day he will be a champion. With out him on the track it’s just racing with him on the track racing is interesting, more exciting.

  3. Kyle will never be a champion. His attitude will always get in the way. I do not understand why J. Gibbs or any sponsor stays with him? No matter how they try to polish him up……the true kyle always shows himself.
