Josh Cribbs is back in the NFL. On Tuesday the Colts signed the veteran return man to a contract after he missed nearly all of last year while being on injured reserve.
The Colts worked out Cribbs last week so the signing is not a complete surprise. He had attracted little interest on the free agent market since being let go by the Jets.
Cribbs is expected to spell the end of Griff Whalen in the return game for the Colts. He is tied for the most all-time kick off returns for touchdowns with eight.
Panther cut Avant
In Carolina the Panthers have released wide receiver Jason Avant.
Avant, 31, has lost speed and is nothing more than a possession receiver at this point in his career. On the season he had 20 catches for 201 yards and a touchdown.
Philly Brown will now take over as the Panthers No. 3 receiver.
