If Nick Saban was to leave Alabama there is only one place he would consider, the University of Texas.
Saban’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, reportedly told former Texas Regent Tom Hicks and current Regent Wallace Hall that Texas was the only job that could cause Saban to leave Alabama.
“Sexton confirmed that UT is the only job Nick would possibly consider leaving Alabama for, and that his success there created special pressure for him,” Hicks wrote on Sept. 24 in an email which was obtained by the Associated Press.
Hicks approached Mack Brown about retiring two days later but Brown refused. Brown is under contract until 2020 but with a new athletic director in town he appears done as the Longhorns head coach at seasons end.
When reports first broke of a meeting between Saban’s agent and Texas Regents the Alabama head coach told reporters that he was “too damn old to start over somewhere else.”
We can expect that rumors will continue to circulate and regardless of where Saban is for the 2014 season his salary appears headed north.
