Alex Wood pitched five innings of one-run ball on Saturday as the Atlanta Braves defeated the Washington Nationals 6-3.
In his five innings of work Wood struck out eight. He left after tossing 103 pitches. For the season Wood i 2-1 with a 1.89 ERA. He will face Philadelphia next time.
Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman was injured in Saturday’s game as he was picked off of second base. He was later diagnosed with a fractured thumb and will be sidelined for the next 4-6 weeks.
The win was the second straight for the Braves against the Nationals. They play again on Sunday. On the season the Braves are 4-1 against the Nationals.
