Rangers pitcher Colby Lewis will begin a minor league rehab assignment next week. Lewis will be assigned to Triple-A Round Rock after throwing an extended spring training game on Saturday according to ESPN Dallas.
The Rangers expect to welcome Lewis back to the starting rotation before the end of the month.
Last season Lewis made 16 starts for the Rangers going 6-6 with a 3.43 ERA. His return will push one of the Rangers rookie phenoms out of the rotation. Either Justin Grimm (2-1, 2.28 ERA) or Nick Tepesch (2-2, 3.54 ERA) will be pushed out of the rotation with the return of Lewis.
