Should Tanaka’s rehab fail he will undergo Tommy John surgery.
Three different doctors have diagnosed the Japanese right hander with a partially torn ligament in his throwing arm. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday.
At the time of Tanaka’s injury he had a league high 12 wins and a 2.51 ERA.
